McKenzie members of the West Tennessee Gymnastics and Cheer Academy cheerleading squad recently won the CheerNation national championship in April.
They are Tiffany Jenks and Morgan Jenks. Tiffany, far left, will be a sophomore at McKenzie High School while Morgan, far right, will be a member of the
McKenzie Middle School squad this year.

McKenzie girls part of national championship

Members of GCA competitive cheerleading squad wins in Cincy

McKenzie siblings Tiffany and Morgan Jenks have had their share of interesting cheerleading experiences. Both have been members of the McKenzie Middle School squad.

They've had their highs and lows. The lows? Tiffany didn't make the high school squad and Morgan didn't cheer for MMS last year after doing so the year before. The highs? Perhaps last April in Cincinnati, when the GCA All-Stars cheerleading squad captured the CheerNation national championship.

The girls say winning the title was a testament of the squad's hard work. In fact Tiffany said there is an expectation to win competitions. It was the third straight national crown for GCA, which stands for West Tennessee Gym and Cheer Academy.

"It was great," said Tiffany, a sophomore at McKenzie High School this year. "We practiced really hard and everybody gave everything they had."

Morgan, an eighth grader who won't be cheering for GCA, instead cheering for MMS instead this year, summed up the experience with a big word from such a small package.

"I was ecstatic," she said. "I'm not sure what that means, but it sounded good!"

The squad is made up of 30 cheerleaders from all over West Tennessee and it is a co-ed squad. Both girls said the GCA team has made their cheer skills better.

"I think the hardest part was moving up from middle school to competition," Tiffany said. "We do a lot more stuff than we did in middle school."

Morgan hopes the experience helps her while she cheers on the MMS Rebels and Lady Rebels this year. She learned more skills at GCA and it earned her All-American status during cheer camp this summer. She and the rest of her McKenzie Middle School cheerleading squad recently won first place in cheer and third in dance at recent camp competition.

Morgan was a flyer and Tiffany is a main base for the GCA squad. They are coached by Brantley Smith.
